There is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression.
And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission.
Well, certainly there are some who are more responsible than others, and they may be held accountable yet - truth be told, if we are looking to place blame, we have but to look into a mirror.
I know why it happened.
I know why you were afraid.
Who wouldn't be? Terror, War, Disease - there were a myriad of problems that conspired to rob you of your reason and corrupt your common sense. Fear got the best of you, and in your terror you turned to the charming good-ol-boys of the Bush Administration.
They promised you order,
They promised you peace,
And all they asked in return was your silent, obedient consent.
This week, this year, I seek to end that silence - to remind this country of what it has forgotten.
