Surface to space game engine tech demo video.

This is a fun little video showing off a tech demo of a "surface to space" video game engine. Go straight for the video - still pictures don't do it justice.

Ways you know you're a nerd: You get all skeptical at the speed with which the viewpoint flys between Earth and Jupiter at the end of the video. "That took, what, 10 seconds from breaking atmo to being able to see Jupiter? I don't think so."

Ways you know you're a huge freakin' nerd: You actually do the math. "Earth-Jupiter distance is (closest approach) 390 million miles... divided by 10 secs is 39 million miles per second... speed of light is 186,000 miles per second... that ship was going approx 210 times the speed of light!"

Ways you know you're completely hopeless: You curious to know what warp factor that is, so you go look up the Warp Drive article on Wikipedia and consult the corrected Okuda scale to find out that 210*c is approximately warp 5. Bonus nerdity: You can find 200 on a semi-log graph without even thinking about it.

Edit: Major nerd points lost for not being able to tell the difference between Jupiter and Saturn! (Nelson) Heh-HEH! (/Nelson)
