If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen."

The Pakistani military is striking truces with Islamic separatists along the country's border with Afghanistan, freeing Pakistani militants and al-Qaida fighters to join Taliban insurgents battling U.S.-led troops and government forces in Afghanistan..... when the military failed to crush the separatists, the Bush administration agreed to support Pakistan's truce-making efforts and pledged millions of dollars in additional aid.

Parody is absolutely obseleted by this administration... "Hey, what do you think we should do with Osama, that guy who crashed the planes into the WTC on 9/11?" "Uh, how about, we give the country he's hiding in, who just signed a peace treaty with his terrorist organization, millions of dollars?"

Can I get a "Testify"? Plz?

I've been trying to figure out what the fuck "post-irony" (as in the country's collective post-9/11 mood) is supposed to be.

I think I just got it. We (by which I mean Da Preznent) declare blanket war on any country that we deem to be aiding terrorists, we completely destroy the underlying philosophy of our own country (thereby accomplishing the terrorists' goal), and then we give millions of taxpayer dollars to a country that says flat out, "Hey, ObL! It's cool, come on out!"

The lunatics truly are in charge of the asylum.

In ironic times, people would intentionally do something that was "wrong" or "unacceptable", but do it in a way that poked fun at out-dated conventions and didn't hurt anyone. Because it was funny to transgress upon arbitrary rules that didn't make sense any more. And it showed how dumb they were.

Here in post-ironic times, people are doing the wrong thing, doing it the wrong way, hurting people and massively screwing everything up... with nary a thought or hint of the idea that maybe it's the wrong thing to do. The acts are superficially similiar, but the understanding of the principle behind it is totally gone. It's like... George Carlin vs. Beavis and Butthead.

(Not to bash B&B - I think they're hilarious. But they're hilarious because they're NOT REAL and nobody actually gets hurt by their idiocy.)
