Okay, I lied - you WILL look like a huge nerd. But you're going to be having so much fun you won't even notice. (G) Just watch the video:

http://us.wii.com/viewer_zelda.jsp?vid=3

I am so jazzed about finally having a new kind of controller. I thought the dual-shock was absolutely brilliant when it came out... TEN YEARS AGO! Since then we've had almost zero actual progress. Frankly, if it weren't for Nintendo releasing the Wavebird wireless controller, we really would have had zero progress.

The only way I think the Revo-mote could be better would be if it could incorporate some kind of extremely precise motion tracking, like the Gametrak. Too bad, the Gametrak guys had the idea first and even made working hardware... but once again we see that IT'S THE GAMES, STUPID! Every time I look at Zelda: Twilight Princess it looks more and more fun. Come on Nintendo, unleash the Revolution already!

I wonder how long it will be until someone sues Nintendo because of something stupid they do with their own Wii-mote.

*sigh*

I hate people sometimes.

Well, if you don't look silly with the remote, at least you'll be able to sound silly when you tell somebody "Why yes, I have a Wii"

Say it with me: "Wiiiiiiii" :P

I am so super excited about this system. I think I haven't been this excited about a system since the original playstation... Or heck maybe the Super Nintendo.
I will watch the video when I get home; but am with you on Zelda. If there was no other game on the system, I'd still be buying it. However as you again noted: GAMES GAMES GAMES. I really ph33r that Revolution will be quick out of the game, then have games that don't truly utilize its own inovations...
Have you found a place to get a pre-order in?

I'm not pre-ordering one. If it takes me until after Christmas to get one, I'm cool with that.

I dunno. It screams "I am an instrument of repetitive stress injury, BWHAHAHAHAHAA FEAR ME!" to me. That's one reason why I like basic controllers.

You really think the Revomote looks worse than a normal controller?

You betcha. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel ten years ago. The number one thing that keeps me from wearing braces on my wrists all the frikking time is being able to rest my lower arms, and most especially my elbows, on a surface while I'm typing. Ditto while I'm playing video games, I've got to keep my arms well supported or else my hands get exhausted and painful. A controller that involves waving my hands & arms about is going to spell extreme discomfort for me.

Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome idea. Whoo, slashy fighting movements! It's just that I won't be able to use it much, if at all, and I doubt I'm alone there. Hope normal controllers will be compatible too, at least for some games.

That's so odd. So your carpal tunnel problems really originate in your elbow joints and shoulder?

I mean, I would expect that people are going to get tired quickly from thrashing their arms all over the place. But RSI type stuff, that I wouldn't expect. I thought that came from your wrists being twisted and/or your hands being pushed backwards towards your elbows, while you make finger movements.

Looks like I have some reading to do...

Okay, more accurately, I've had some doctors tell me it was CT and some that it was tendonitis. For all I know I've got a bit of both. Nothing overwhelming, but it means I pay a lot of attention to what my arms/hands are doing/any pain/exhaustion signals they send out.

I swear the needing to have my elbows resting thing is true, though. I regularly move computer monitors & keyboards to make this possible, and play video games with a pillow on my lap or somesuch.

As for RSI itself, no, it's simply caused by the same sorts of motions over and over and over and over and over and over and over.

Carple tunnel is a specific kind of RSI (most of the time, sometimes carple tunnel has nothing to do with RSI's). RSI's can occur anywhere in the body, it's just a matter of repeating the same stressful motion over and over again.
