Valve, makers of HalfLife 2 and the Source engine that runs it, are completing mods to Source for multi-core. Unsurprisingly, it's a huge software dev investment with no real tools for help or structure. The good news is that with a lot of intelligence and effort, it really does seem to scale framerate linearly with number of cores. They also think that AI is going to take a big leap forward due to the availability of CPU power to run it.

As much as they hate each other, you know both Intel and AMD are like: "Quad cores! What a boon to the marketing department!! And just when we were foundering because we can't figure out a way increase clock speeds!"
