The 1936 Summer Olympics (officially known as the Games of the XI Olympiad) were held in 1936 in Berlin, Germany. Although the bid was won before the Nazi Party gained power in Germany, some leaders in the government saw the Olympics as an opportunity to promote their Nazi ideology. Hitler was convinced by Joseph Goebbels to allow the games to take place in Germany.

Hitler used the Olympics as a tool for propaganda. Film-maker Leni Riefenstahl, a favorite of Hitler, was commissioned by the International Olympic Committee to film the Games. The film, titled Olympia, originated many of the techniques now commonplace to the filming of sports. By allowing only members of the "Aryan race" to compete for Germany, Hitler further promoted his ideological belief of racial supremacy.

Of course, the current popular outrage about Olympic Games in China has nothing to do with anti-Chinese propaganda campaign that far exceeded anything Goebbels could dream of. What is in its turn in no way related to propping up US military-industrial complex and pathetic attempts to exert influence over the place that has growing industry while US is losing last remnants of it.

As I have said in another place, if people are so concerned about Tibet and it's "government in exile",

Or it might actually be about Tibet, and about asking China to be respectable, in a world that they are grabbing power in.

Of course my experience with the left is, that outside of a small minority, they rarely met a dictator that they didn't like - ie, Mugave a few years ago, Castro, Chavez, etc.

I will give Pelosi credit for this one thing - at least she is calling a spade a spade.

"Respectable" as in what, giving up their provinces for US to grab as client states? What do you think, Tibet's "independence" is going to be, the place has no economy to speak of, and population is unwilling to develop it to the level that is fit for an independent nation.

in a world that they are grabbing power in.

Better China than you. China has more than a billion of people, yet it only uses resources it needs, and does not meddle in the affairs of other countries.

Oh, "dictator", the default Republican insult for a national leader of any kind.
