While Americans eagerly vote for the next president, here’s a sobering reminder: As of Tuesday, George W. Bush still has 77 days left in the White House — and he’s not wasting a minute.
President Bush’s aides have been scrambling to change rules and regulations on the environment, civil liberties and abortion rights, among others — few for the good. Most presidents put on a last-minute policy stamp, but in Mr. Bush’s case it is more like a wrecking ball. We fear it could take months, or years, for the next president to identify and then undo all of the damage.
Here is a look — by no means comprehensive — at some of Mr. Bush’s recent parting gifts and those we fear are yet to come.
nickhalfasleep asked me, "Now that Obama's won, are you still going to NZ?" The answer is the same as it was before: "I'm only staying if they impeach Dubya." Electing Obama doesn't bring back the 30,000+ people we've killed in Iraq. People whose only "crime" was that they lived in a country Dubya didn't like during the wrong 5 year period in history. Dead is forever - electing Obama won't bring those people back to life.
Until you can prove to me, America, that you're not just a bunch of warmongering fuckheads who get a kick out of sending your soldiers off to die horrible deaths while they kill innocent people by the tens of thousands, you will remain a place I don't want to live. And the only way you can begin to prove it, is to make the effort to drag Dubya before a court of law and at least TRY to hold him accountable for what he's done.
Pelosi has no excuses left now. There's no conceivable reason for her to continue to hold back those who wish to take down Dubya for his many crimes. Her previous "I don't want to spoil our chances in the election" excuse was lousy to begin with, but now she has absolutely NO excuse left. Two months is enough time if you DC idiots will just get serious.
